IAAI Bidding from Azerbaijan: How Insurance Auto Auctions Works

AutoMakler Team 2026-06-12 8 min read

IAAI (Insurance Auto Auctions) is the second-largest auto auction in the US, specialized in insurance total-loss vehicles. More than 2 million cars go to sale every year, offering attractive opportunities for buyers in Azerbaijan.

A quick look at IAAI

  • Founded in 1982, headquartered in Westchester, Illinois
  • 200+ sale locations across the US and Canada
  • Main suppliers: GEICO, State Farm, Progressive, and Allstate insurance companies
  • Online listings: 100,000+ active lots

How it differs from Copart

The main differences between IAAI and Copart are covered in detail in a separate article. In short:

  • IAAI has more insurance total-loss vehicles
  • Prices are often slightly lower than on Copart
  • Some lots are open only to licensed insurance dealers

Stock Number and lot search

On IAAI, the vehicle identifier is called the Stock Number (similar to the Lot Number on Copart). The IAAI URL format looks like this:

iaai.com/VehicleDetail/12345678~US

You can paste a VIN, Stock Number, or the full URL into the AutoMakler calculator — we detect it automatically.

How do I place a bid on IAAI?

You cannot become a direct IAAI member from Azerbaijan — you take part through a broker. AutoMakler:

  1. Bids on IAAI on your behalf
  2. Checks the reserve price (starting from 1 AZN)
  3. Explains the Bid-Once auction strategy
  4. Calculates the auction fees

Which cars can you buy?

On IAAI you will find:

  • Salvage-title cars (accident, flood, fire)
  • Repairable cars (can be fixed)
  • Clean-title vehicles (a small share)
  • Teardown / Parts only — for spare parts only

Tip: check the Carfax

An IAAI lot does not show the Carfax status. Before you bid, be sure to order a Carfax through AutoMakler — it starts from 2 AZN and is ready in 5-30 minutes.
